FSC

What is FSC?

FSC, Forest Stewardship Council, is an international organisation founded in 1993, that stimulates sustainable forest management. FSC has been composing worldwide standards and norms, linked to a certificate, for forest management. There are 10 basic FSC-principles for responsible management and forest owners can acquire certification if their forest meets those principles. Independant auditors will monitor the abidance of the rules.

How does FSC work?

The core of FSC is to ensure that forests, tropical and non-tropical, are environmentally, socially and economically managed. Managers can differentiate themselves from others by applying all 10 principles and criteria. Additionally, wood is distinguishable for the end-user once it has been FSC approved. The end-users are assured that the wood originates from managed forests because the wood has been monitored throughout the whole chain.
